This essay examines the remains of a long-abandoned bleachery.
A bleachery was a component of the textile industry. As you might guess from the name, they made bleach, and bleached textiles on an industrial scale. When the textile mills left this part of the country, and eventually the entire country, the bleacheries left with them.
A little bit of research revealed that this particular bleachery operated from 1900 to 1972. Many of the buildings that comprised this complex have totally collapsed, but some remained in remarkable shape considering how long they have been left abandoned. All in all, I'm just amazed this site even continues to exist. Enjoy!
UPDATE: This place is demolished.
